President's Report

President’s Message
I write this just a few hours after completing the joint FoBHM/Biology SA Spring walk. What a fantastic morning with great weather and good people. As we each took turns to share the things we saw and the things we knew, it only served to reinforce the complexity of the environment of Black Hill.

The walk up to the Black Hill Summit reminds me of what it is all about, there is good stringybark bush all the way up, and about half way down, you notice the first few weeds at the weed front. Then you notice the work that has already started with dead olives, boneseed in the sheoak/blue gum woodland. There is more to do, and we have made a start.

The Committee continues to meet regularly, with the Spring Contractor work across Amber’s Gully, Crag Care and Horsnell Gully well underway. This work is funded through a mix of government grants, corporate grants and donations. This contractor work compliments the work of our volunteers.

A huge thanks to our volunteers and project coordinators who continue to work in their Project areas making valuable progress, and learning valuable lessons about restoring our native habitats.

Our AGM is coming up soon, more information will be circulated soon. We are formulating our contractor work for next year, and plan to share these arrangements at the AGM.

A reminder that memberships are due. You membership helps us have a strong voice, and the funds raised cover most of the running costs of the group. The membership process also includes the opportunity, if you are in a position to do so, to make a donation.

Thanks for your support, today’s Spring walk reinforces to me that our combined and targeted efforts can remove woody weeds from Black Hill, Morialta and Horsnell Gully. It’s a big job, each area needs to be visited a number of times, and we have made a start and have plans to do more in 2025.
