Volunteer with us!

Anyone can join us at a bushcare event to get into some habitat restoration. We welcome you to come and try by registering to join us at an upcoming event. Check out our different projects sites to find the location you'd like to be involved in or try them all. All of our projects are different!

Habitat Restoration Participant:

Join a passionate group of volunteers making a significant difference in our conservation parks! We work collaboratively with the National Parks and Wildlife Service to improve habitat for many threatened species, including the nationally endangered Southern Brown Bandicoot and the Mount Lofty Ranges Chestnut-rumped Heathwren.

This is the most common form of volunteering with our organisation. It involves joining us at one (or many) of our scheduled habitat restoration events being hosted in one of our 3 conservation parks.

We work with schools, clubs and community groups to raise environmental awareness about the issues affecting these parks and how we can make a difference on the ground. Over 45,000 volunteer hours have been put in on the ground since the Friends group was formed. We’d love to see you out on park with us!

Project Coordinator:

Become a leading driver behind the restoration of our precious parks! Improve your leadership skills and take custodianship over your own work area.

This position requires some knowledge of habitat restoration, though not as much as you might think as we are always willing to mentor enthusiastic bush carers ready to do more. It involves leading a team of people on the ground to undertake restoration activities. This will include planning the activity or event, sourcing tools, safety equipment and any chemicals which may be needed for the event. Reporting to the committee on progress, plans and challenges. We currently have 15 projects and some need dedicated project coordinators.

Coordinating your own project provides an incredible opportunity for learning and growing with the native bush you protect. Please contact us for further details!

Coordinating a small group of volunteers

Committee Member:

This position is for people who are interested in being more involved. The committee works together to administer the group and set the direction for the Friend of Black Hill and Morialta. It ensures the financial stability and viability of the group, ensures our members are kept safe, maintains plans of volunteer projects created in consultation with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and develops future funding and works priority areas for each park. The committee currently meets monthly and is voted in at each annual general meeting. New committee members may be added to the committee as required during the year as well.

Committee members aim to attend, or contribute to, at least 75% of committee meetings in any year. Members contribute in a positive manner to discussions, highlighting concerns and assisting with identifying solutions. Committee members vote for/against any business item which requires a decision.

There are further responsibilities which may be taken on as a committee member. Such as:
• Minutes secretary: responsible for preparing and circulating the monthly committee meeting agenda; take the minutes of the committee meeting, circulate as required and ensuring a copy of approved minutes are available on file for each meeting.
• Membership officer: responsible for maintaining a database of member information; accepting membership information, update membership records & issue welcome letters when needed; issue correspondence as requested by the committee/secretary to members.
• Records officer: responsible for maintaining the paper files of the group.
• Community engagement officers: people who are willing to engage further with members of the public to spread the word about the work we do.
• Fundraising coordinators: responsible for taking the lead on hosting fund raising events or providing fundraising opportunities.
• Newsletter editor: responsible for collating and editing our quarterly newsletter to members
• Website administrator: responsible for ensuring the smooth administration of our website and email addresses
• Grant leads: responsible for applying for and managing grant funds to further the objectives of the group.
