I am writing to you on behalf of the Royal Geographical Society of South Australia (RGSSA), to invite you and the members of the Friends of Black Hill and Morialta to attend the lectures and other events of the RGSSA – should you have opportunity to do so.
Full details of our Society’s past and forthcoming activities – which include regular lectures, exhibitions, trips and tours, Flinders Ranges and Barossa walks, and rare books discussions  are available on our website at https://rgssa.org.au/activities Some recent and future activities that may be of interest to your members include:
‘From sextants to satellites: where on earth am I?’ Chris Rawlinson (public lecture)

  • Cacti eradication in the Flinders Ranges’ Ralph Abbot (public lecture)

As you may know, RGSSA has a long and distinguished history of promoting geographical science and awareness in our state and we believe that you and your members share our passion for our unique part of the world.
RGSSA is one of the most longstanding geographical organisations in the world. Since 1885 we have fostered geographical discovery, research expeditions, educational programs, and public engagement initiatives. Over those 139 years we have also accumulated and cared for one of the most significant collections of rare geographical books and manuscripts in Australia. Our collections, which include artefacts from early expeditions, including those of Sturt and Stuart, are located in the magnificent Mortlock Wing of the State Library of South Australia on North Terrace, Adelaide. It is in this building (Level 3) that we also have our Society’s Rooms and visitors are always welcome during our opening hours (Tues-Fri from 10am – 1pm).
Further details about the Society are available on our website at https://rgssa.org.au/.
We also have a Facebook and LinkedIn pages at
We hope you and your members find the Society’s activities of interest and we welcome your attendance or inquiries about any of them.
I would be very pleased if you would forward this invitation to the members of your organisation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at admin@rgssa.org.au.

Yours sincerely
