In memory of Dennis Slade
31/03/1937 - 24/03/2022
Dennis joined the ‘Friends’ on the 1st of February 2002
Dennis (with Carolyn) began volunteering at Horsnell Gully in 2004 and made a considerable contribution to the habitat restoration that occurred there. Not just attending public events, Dennis and Carolyn spent considerable time working in the park to control pest species.
Dennis was the primary grower of many plants used to rehabilitate Horsnell Gully due to his expertise gained from his collecting of seeds and bushcare work with Trees for Life
He was passionate about removing watsonia in our patch and spent many hours with the “tongs of death” and grubbing bulbs.
Dennis was well known and respected in the Trees for Life scheme and made a huge contribution in that area.
In addition to the “on the ground” work Dennis did for the Friends, he also spent many years serving on the committee.
We have greatly valued his contribution and support to the Friends group over the years and the many stories about his life before retirement as well as his knowledge and passion for growing local plants
